Copycat Air Fryer Chicken Sandwich

Jump to Recipe

This copycat air fryer chicken sandwich is a healthier alternative to our fast food favorites. I came across this recipe from Lite Cravings, “Fried” Chicken Sandwich and made it with a few tweaks. I’ve increased the batter amount and added pickle juice for that Chick-fil-A flavor!

This copycat chicken sandwich rivals Chick-fil-A, Zaxby’s, and Pop-eyes! Especially in the north where you don’t get those options (at least not close by)!

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup corn starch
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp minced dried onion
  • 2 tsp ground white pepper
  • 2 chicken breasts
  • Salt & pepper
  • 2 tbsp almond milk
  • 2 tbsp pickle juice
  • 1 egg
  • 2 brioche buns
  • 2 slices of pepper jack cheese
  • Grillo's pickles
Directions
Step 1
Mix the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, minced dried onion, and white pepper together in a large bowl.
Step 2
Beat chicken breasts with a mallet in between two pieces of parchment paper until equal thickness. Cut in half so you have four pieces of chicken. Salt and pepper chicken breast.
Step 3
Coat chicken in flour mixture and set aside.
Step 4
Beat egg 1 tbsp almond milk, and 1 tbsp pickle juice in separate bowl.
Step 5
Add remaining 1 tbsp almond milk, and 1 tbsp pickle juice to flour mixture and mix together so it’s clumpy.
Step 6
Dip chicken into the egg mixture and then press into clumpy flour mixture. Repeat with each chicken breast. Crack extra black pepper on side of chicken facing up and spray with olive oil to coat.
Step 7
Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Spray basket with olive oil.
Step 8
Place two chicken pieces in basket with the olive oil sprayed side down. Crack extra black pepper and spray top side of chicken with olive oil so both sides have been coated with pepper and oil.
Step 9
Cook for 7 minutes and then turn chicken. Spray with olive oil. Return to air fryer and cook for additional seven minutes, or until chicken is crisp and has reached 165°F internal temperature.
Step 10
Let cool on wire rack for approximately five minutes before serving. Repeat cooking process with remaining two chicken pieces.
Step 11
Serve on brioche buttered bun with pickle slices and pepper jack cheese. Enjoy!
